FAQ

Do I want to specialize in one area or should I branch out?

Many students prefer to be a specialist in one subject (e.g. English, History or Math) rather than pursuing multiple subjects. It is not always necessary to become a specialist. For example, if you're considering becoming a physician, you could choose to specialize in either internal medicine or surgery. You can also become a general practice physician, with a focus in family medicine, neurology, psychiatry or gerontology. If you're considering a business career, you could concentrate on marketing, management, finance, human resources, operations research, or sales. It's your choice.

What's the difference between a university and a college?

A university can be described as an academic institution that offers higher education. It offers courses in various areas, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

A college is often smaller and less famous than a university. It might offer fewer courses, but it will often have its own specialist areas.

What does it take for you to become a teacher at an early age?

It is important to decide whether you want to enter early childhood education. Then you will need your bachelor's degrees. In some states, students must have a masters degree.

You may also be required to attend classes during the summer. These courses cover topics such as pedagogy (the art of teaching) and curriculum development.

Many colleges offer associate degree programs that lead directly into a teaching certificate.

While some schools offer certificates or bachelor's degrees in early childhood education, others only offer diplomas.

You may not require additional training if you are planning to teach at your own home.

How much money does a teacher make in early childhood education? (earning potential)

An average salary for an early childhood teacher is $45,000 annually

But, salaries in certain areas are more than average. For example, teachers who work in large urban districts often earn more than those working in rural schools.

Salaries also depend on factors such as the district's size and whether or not a teacher has a master's or doctorate.

Because they lack experience, teachers often make less than other college graduates. Their wages can rise over time though.

What is vocational education?

Vocational Education is an educational system that prepares students for employment after high school or college by providing them training in specific skills needed for a particular job (such as welding). You can also get on-the job training through apprenticeship programs. Vocational education is distinct from general education as it focuses more on training individuals for specific jobs than on learning broad knowledge that can be used in the future. Vocational training is not designed to prepare individuals for university but rather to assist them in finding jobs upon graduation.

Vocational education can be offered at any level of schooling: primary, secondary, college, university, technical institutes and trade schools. There are also many specialty schools like nursing schools and law schools, legal schools, medical schools and dental schools as well as veterinary medicine, veterinary medicine, firefighting, police academies and military academies. Many of these schools provide both academic instruction as well as practical experience.

A number of countries have made significant investments in vocational education over recent decades; for example, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The effectiveness of vocational training is still a controversial topic. Some critics argue that it does little to improve students' employability; others argue that it provides useful preparation for life after school.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (47% of American adults are currently holding a postsecondary certificate/degree related to their current job), this figure is higher among those with more education. This number is higher for those with higher education. 71% of 25-29-year-olds have a bachelor's or higher degree and are employed in areas that require postsecondary credentials.

The BLS reported in 2012 that almost half of all adults had some type of postsecondary credential. About a third of Americans were able to obtain a twoyear associate degree. Another 10% had a fouryear bachelor's. One in five Americans has a master's or doctorate.

In 2013, the median annual wage for persons holding a bachelor's degree was $50,900, compared to $23,800 for those without a degree. For advanced degrees, the median annual wage was $81,300.

For those who did not complete high school, the median wage was only $15,200. Earn $13,000 per annum for those with less high school diplomas.
